The Equine Connection at The Ranch

Horses are an integral part of the ranch, not only for ranch work and companionship, but for opportunities to learn about ourselves, bringing healing and growth.

Horses are similar to humans in that they are social animals. They have personalities, attitudes, and moods. At times they can be stubborn and defiant, but they also like to have fun and are curious and sensitive. Horses are extremely keen on reading body language. Their survival depends on keeping an eye on their surroundings, looking out for predators. With safety their first priority, if they can’t run from danger they will fight and even in some cases freeze. They can tell what mood you’re in from long off. They can feel your heartbeat three feet away.

Horses will mirror our emotions and require us to have honest and authentic communication. They live in the present and their main concern is what’s going on now. Horses have big hearts and will not stop giving to us if we prove to them that they are safe with us and that we’ll take care of them. We have many stories of how horses have brought healing, restoration, self awareness and other life lessons. We will share them in letters to come.

Equine therapy session with horses.

I have another story I’d like to share that I read in an article a few years ago. The article was about a horse facility and a group of kids that were coming for an “equine therapy” session with horses.

God is Doing a Small Thing
