Horses & Human Stories
One of the stories I’d like to share was on TV many years ago. I recorded it to a VHS tape (that tells you it was a while ago!). It was a real working ranch for boys where they also raised horses. They had a lot of boys living there, and part of their activities was to help with the horses. They had mares (momma horses) and foals (their babies) to take care of too. One boy in particular shared with the interviewer what he learned being able to watch and take care of these mares and their foals. What I remember him saying was, “When I have kids one day I will keep them close to me and take good care of them just like these mares take care of their babies”. Every time I watched that show I cried. I know there are so many children that are abused, abandoned, lost, alone and scared in our world. I ask the Lord, “What can I do? How can Ido more?”
Over the years we have supported other organizations doing this work, but I have always wanted to use our horses to help people. So I started on a journey to learn how horses help humans. I studied Natural Horsemanship. I attended seminars and hands-on workshops on “Equine Psychotherapy and Learning “. I have certifications and papers but I will always be learning more. I have also learned so much about myselfover the years working with horses. I wish I had learned this stuff before I had children. Sorry kids.
In 2006, Randy and I attended an informational clinic at Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch in Sisters, Oregon. We had read Kim Meeder’s book, Hope Rising, and sent support to that ministry. The clinic was wonderful. We got to meet Kim and Troy Meeder and the staff. We learned all about their ministry to horses and humans, and although R Creek Family Ranch will not function just like Crystal Peaks, we will be similar in many ways. In fact, we would like to be one of their “Similar Ministries” as soon as possible. Please check out Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch online, you’ll like it!
More horse and human stories to come.
